Gentlemen:
This is an open letter, and is being shared with my readers and others.
As a journalist and media professional I am very picky about my own choice of news & views sources that I rely on. I admire the regular NYC NBC news anchors and, especially because of my respect and admiration for the abilities of Brian Williams, I also started watching your two other channels, CNBC & MSNBC.
I am writing to let you know that I am turning away from them, in abject horror and utter disgust, since they appear to be Clinton's 'NBC' [Nothing But Cronies]. Quite frankly, that is what your two "personalities" Geraldo Rivera and Charles Grodin are turning your otherwise respected news outlets into.
Geraldo Rivera, who attempts so hard to be, oh, so sincere, mature and wise, with his intense look and bushy brow, fails totally to even act objective. He comes across as someone who may even be on the Democratic Party payroll - or worse.
He is entitled to his opinions, but to be a preacher on behalf of a shamed (but shameless) President, and making him look like an innocent victim is more than I, and a lot of American people, can stand. The worst episode and example was last night, February 12, 1999.
It is bad enough that now, apparently in the new tradition of American 'justice' established by the O. J. Simpson acquittal, Bill Clinton got away with high crimes and misdemeanors. As you know, there were at least 50 Senators, i.e. half of all Senators, who found the President GUILTY.
Geraldo Rivera proved to me why language comprehension standards, not to mention the quality of journalism, are falling so rapidly. Talking about the 50-50 vote Geraldo more than once used words like "resounding" and "overwhelming" rejection of the accusations against the President. Huh? A 50-50 split is a resounding rejection?
This same Geraldo's big mouth recently led you to settle (out of court) for breaches of contract. He had announced a $10,000 reward for people who could prove that lying under oath about sex got anyone into jail. When people came forth with examples, he tried to wriggle out of it.
Did Geraldo pay these settlements, or is NBC (and parent company GE) footing the bill? Is this where the profits of GE go that you make from charging 22-24% extortion like rates on GE Capital financed store credit cards on millions of working Americans?
Oh - in case I forget (which can be easy with the person I am now speaking about). One of your channels also has the completely lackluster, (yawn) boring, and worse, stupid show with Charles Grodin.
Who actually found him to do a show for you? He was pathetic enough as an actor, but to now have to watch him as a pontificating talking head - while making no sense at all - is enough to churn my stomach.
To make matters worse, last week on one of his shows Charles Grodin went on and on, on and on, saying that the system of Justice is cruel. He was critical of the justice system for putting away someone who was a drug pusher, someone else who was a violent criminal, and basically anyone who recently got caught committing a major crime and who had a "few mistakes" in their past. I strongly encourage you to get the tapes and watch that show yourself.
Does anyone in your office watch these free-wheeling, unprincipled, undisciplined, and from their choice of words, apparently illiterate, "journo-personalities"? Or can they shove any of their own personal (lack of) beliefs and interests down audiences' throats? And they can do this even when the facts are the opposite of their choice of words? Or are they presenting your views and those of your corporations? Or do you really not care?
I consider myself quite liberal, and though not an American citizen, a firm believer in the greatness this nation strives for with the ethics of hard work and justice. I look forward to having your views, and better still, action, on these out of control anti-American-value-spewing "liberals" who seem to want everything that will bring this great society to decay and demise.
Sincerely
Imran Anwar
