Congressman Pallone & Congresswoman Lowey;

I am glad you spoke up against significant or even sincere long term US support for Pakistan at a time when the US needs that much maligned ally that we have screwed each time we used them, in the 50s, 60, 70s, 80, and the 90s.

Ironic, isn't is, that the US paid money to drive fundamentalist zeal in that country to ensure support for the fight against the Soviets and now find those same fundamentalists threatening the security of Pakistan and the region. Shame.

It was good to see you show that any country like Pakistan (used, abused and dumped in each past decade) should always remember that the US is only an ally or "friend" when it needs them. Shame.

You are talking and thinking in terms of withholding (or withdrawing whenever soonest possible) support for Pakistan because it is not directly involved in your attacks on a Muslim neighbor that it has to live with after the US again abandons the region again in less than 2 years.

May I remind your brave selves, the USAF is yet to shoot down a plane of a country less than one tenth its size. The Pakistani Air Force shot down several Soviet MiGs when the Afghan-Soviet conflict led them to attack Pakistani soil - while we Pakistanis fought a SUPERPOWER on your behalf.

What did the US do (a war it did not even have a single fighting soldier in)? It turned its back and walked away as soon as the Soviets were defeated, leaving Pakistan with 2 million gun-toting, drug peddling, law-breaking Afghans in its major cities. Shame on you, for the transparent, shameless, display of political exploitation and insincerity once again for a country that continues to pay the price for being a US ally in the past.

The American people are loyal and just. Congress, and members like you (especially from an unprincipled, intern-sex-enjoying party like the Democrats), show how unwise, hypocritical, exploitative, unprincipled and shamelessly insincere US policy is, remains and will always be. Shame, because 5000 people died in NYC because of such policies from the past, yet our politicians do not learn from that.

If you had any semblance of reflecting the values and ideals of the American PEOPLE, you would think less like politicians getting money from Indian interests (remember, India was the Soviet ally all during the Cold War), and think more like Americans - the people who are just and fair, not exploitative, insincere, unreliable, hypocrites.

Justice, and fairness, would require you to say, "Pakistan has been our staunchest ally for 50 years. The Kashmiri people are waiting for 50+ years for the right to self-determination, with UN resolutions ignored for 50 years. Let us ensure we give them their rights and permanently solve the Pakistan-India conflict, which will otherwise one day escalate into nuclear conflict that will involve the Middle East and other Islamic states too. It is not something the US, or the World, can afford."

Perhaps it is time you tried to think and act like Americans, not a political action committee supported politicians. In the meantime, as a politically active, media-professional, Pakistani-Muslim-American I will ensure widest public dissemination of these facts. Thus, when you are up for re-election the large Pakistani-Muslim populace (large working class plus educated well heeled professionals in NJ & NY) of your districts support whoever opposes both of you, both for the Democratic nomination and the seats in Congress.

If my assumptions above of your short-term, exploitative, insincere, anti-Pakistan, Kashmiri-rights ignoring, stances are incorrect, I will be happy to apologize for what I say above. Please let me know I am wrong, so I can happily stand by and support you to bring peace (and JUSTICE) to that region and the world at large.

God Bless the American People and may their values be represented by their representatives. Amen.

Imran Anwar
