Let's Rebuild the City, Not A Crumbling Politician's Career

Rebuild the WTC TALLER than Before, Not Shorter!

CJ Campbell, an internet correspondent and fellow aviator, expressed my thoughts exactly above, which is why I for one, as a Muslim and an American, say:

- We SHOULD rebuild the WTC, not lower than before, but even taller, so NYC is again the tallest in the US if not the world.

- We should not pander to (themselves bigoted) politicians' (like Guiliani) desire to get extra mileage and office time. America (as I have always said) is strong not because of its structures (we saw what happened to the WTC), or its military (we saw what happened in Vietnam) but because of its PEOPLE and its INSTITUTIONS.

7000 people dead/missing is huge human tragedy....but is it reason enough to violate existing laws and let Rude Guilliani stay on for more months or another term? NO!

If we do that you can imagine how we would react if heaven forbid it had been an earthquake that hit NYC? Would we let Bill Clinton stay on in power for life? Last time I looked, Presidents transitioned while you (I was not in the US at that time) were in MAJOR wars including Vietnam.

We move on, we move forward, we build, we rebuild, buildings, lives, security systems and correct what wrongs our governments do abroad so we are on the side of Justice out of strength, not out of terror.....but let us not start destroying the very institutions we have that make America strong and that the people of the world look up to. They aspire to democracy and equal rights, not to be like a nasty, bigoted, politically motivated dirtbag like Guiliani who has gotten plenty of mileage and should rest and retire in peace now.

If we do not, I can tell you as someone coming from Pakistan, where, despite a Constitution that makes abrogating it or installing military regimes punishable by death, we have military coups regularly. The Generals come in, under one "emergency" excuse or another (they have used, war, corruption, even economic conditions) as reasons to come in.

Each time, they remove judges and install handpicked people in the spineless judiciary of Pakistan, who as shoe-licking lapdogs "interpret" the laws to their masters' advantage, and curtail freedoms, break laws themselves, make money, and over time make the institutions so weak that it would take 50 years to rebuild them.

It always started small...and led to the destruction of what should have been a strong foundation for long term democracy.

It is a SLIPPERY SLOPE. Does America want to go down it? I hope not.
